About the School. the Team. Our Beliefs.

Christ Centered

We build a strong foundation of faith by instilling in students a love for God and His Word from a young age. We encourage each child to grow in their own personal relationship with Jesus. All of our subjects are Biblically integrated so they can witness God in all areas of study and develop a thoroughly grounded Biblical worldview.

Academically Excellent

We inspire students to be lifelong learners who challenge themselves to constantly grow in knowledge and experience. We provide a rigorous academic environment and well rounded curriculum that will help them succeed in an array of areas. We have a strong STEAM program that encourages them to be critical thinkers. Our language arts program helps them to learn from literature and history to build their knowledge and become articulate verbal and written communicators. Multiple enrichment opportunities including art, music, foreign language, and technology help them develop a depth of intellect.

Community Minded

Through our Biblical studies and staff examples, we teach all students to model Christian character and hold them to a high standard of conduct as students, peers and leaders. LCA graduates will be strong, integrative, kind, compassionate and godly leaders at home and in their communities. We seek to develop leaders who love others well and can go out into the
world to make a difference for Christ and His kingdom. We offer opportunities for students to regularly serve inside and outside the classroom to impact their community.

But as for you, o child  of God, … Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called …

1 Tim. 6:11-12a

The Facility

Life Christian Academy is in the process of building a new facility on the LifeChurch campus. This will enable us to have dedicated space and room for expansion ultimately through eighth grade. We anticipate opening the new building in fall of 2025. Until then we are utilizing classrooms on the LifeChurch campus.

What We Believe

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, and is the supreme source and standard of truth of Christian beliefs and living.

We believe God is the Creator and Ruler of all creation. There is one God, who has eternally existed in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three, the Godhead, are one in essence and nature.

We believe that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, became man without relinquishing his position as God. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born to the Virgin Mary. We believe He lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He rose from the dead after three days, ascended to the right hand of God, and will return again one day to reign in glory forever.

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and Jesus. He resides inside every Christian from the moment of salvation. The Holy Spirit is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He empowers us to follow Christ, helps us understand the Bible, and gifts us to serve God and others. As Christ-followers, we seek to continually yield ourselves to the influence and control of the Holy Spirit.

God loves people and made people in His image. Even though every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by attitudes and actions of disobedience toward God which we call “sin”. This separates people from God and causes many problems in life. God loves and pursues mankind despite our disobedience. He offers forgiveness, healing, and abundant life to anyone who turns to Him.

We believe salvation is God’s free gift to us, made available through Christ’s death in our place and resurrection from the dead. We cannot make up for our sin through self-improvement or works. Jesus Christ is the only means of salvation and no one is saved apart from a personal decision to turn from their sins and trust in Christ as their Savior.

We believe a New Testament church is a body of believers, baptized by immersion, associated for worship, service, and the spread of the Gospel to the whole world. The Lord Jesus Christ instituted two ordinances to be observed by the church: Baptism and Communion.

We believe that God ordained marriage as a lifelong union between one man and one woman, as first instituted by God in the order of creation. Marriage has been given by God as an unchangeable foundation for human life. Marriage exists so that through it, humanity can honor God through properly ordered and faithful intimacy. The husband and wife relationship serves as a symbolic picture of Christ’s love for the Church.

Meet the Team

Clare Pretlove, Head of School

Clare and her husband, David, moved to Reno in 2005 to start LifeChurch where Clare is currently the Executive Pastor of Family Ministries and is involved in the foster community. Since they started the church it has always been part of their vision to open a Christian school because they firmly believe that it is our God-given mandate to raise up the next generation as well educated, spirit-filled, followers of Jesus fully prepared to impact the world for Christ. We honor God’s call through providing excellence in Christian education.

Clare has a B.S. in Psychology from Texas A&M and a Masters in Christian Education from Liberty University. She has over 20 years experience educating children, teaching in both secular and Christian education environments. Clare’s philosophy of Christian education is founded in Jesus’ words in Luke 10:27, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind, and with all your strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.” Clare sees that we first have to capture children’s hearts- love them well, connect them to community, acknowledge their unique God given gifts, and fuel their passion for God. We also need to help them develop their own personal relationship with Jesus and help ground them in the Word of God. God alone changes lives and hearts. Thirdly, we need to develop their minds through providing them an excellent education that surpasses secular options and is guided by a Biblical worldview across all subjects. We help increase our students’ strength by providing holistic approaches to education and providing healthy outlets for activity. Finally we want our LCA students to exemplify Jesus in the way they love each other and express God’s love in their community and beyond.

Dave and Clare have three daughters, Lauren, 24, Hannah, 18, and Rylee, 17 and three sons, Bradley, 13, Teddy, 7, and Michael, 5. They live the parenting journey at all ages first hand and love to vacation with their crew, hang at the beach, watch Mavericks basketball and go on adventures.

Tamara Barnard

Tamara has been in the education field for over 23 years. She has worked as a teachers aid, campus supervisor, school clerk and school secretary. In her career she was a Coordinator and Union President for the Classified staff at her school district and enjoyed working at Title 1 schools with the students and their families. In every position and place, she has thoroughy enjoyed serving all the families and showing them God’s love. In her previous jobs, while she shone the light of Christ brighlty, she was unable to share the gospel directy. Now she is so excited to be a part of building God’s Kingdom through Life Christian Academy!

Tamara has been a Christian for 48 years. She attended private schools and knows the value of a Christ centered, academically excellent school. It helped set a strong foundation in her walk with the Lord. Her favorite verse is Zephaniah 3:17 “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” His presence changes EVERYTHING.

Tamara was born and raised in California and has spent the majority of her adult life living in Antelope, California. She has two adult sons and one grandson. She moved to the Reno area about a year and a half ago to be near her parents and help take care of them. She enjoys cooking, baking and watching her son & grandson race BMX.

Maureen Ford, Kindergarten Teacher

Maureen graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1983 with a Bachelor of
Science in Education and a specialization in Early Childhood Education. She has been involved in education for the past 40 years- from preschool to college. Maureen taught in both public and Christian schools in Florida, California, and Nevada, mainly teaching kindergarten, but also upper elementary grades and pre-school.

Maureen was the Program Director of a large homeschool K-12 co-op in Reno for twelve years. She coordinated the programs and volunteers and taught over fifty classes at the co-op including guitar, US History, and High School Biology. Maureen’s experience also extends to the college level as she worked with over 500 high school students to coordinate dual credit college courses at Western Nevada College in Carson City.

Maureen began working at Kidslife in 2018 as a Pre-K teacher. She loves teaching beginning learners how to read, how to think mathematically, and watching them develop skills in art, music, science, and geography. She loves leading children into a deeper understanding of who God is and how He loves them.

Maureen’s main goal as a teacher is to inspire a love for learning in each student by exposing them to the absolute wonder in our Creator God’s world: The wonder of language and the order in math, the amazing cultures in places around the world, and the beauty we experience when we create music and art. All these subjects point to a Creator who can be found within the Bible
and experienced through the Holy Spirit working in our lives.

Maureen became a follower of Christ in 1976 and has served as both a Sunday School teacher and worship leader from that time until now. She has been married to her husband, John, since 1980, and has four children and two grandkids. She has lived in Reno for twenty-three years and has a large garden and a small apple orchard that keeps her very busy.
